Good afternoon, and welcome to Rutherford House!
Alexander Rutherford would be happy to see his house restored as a museum.
Rutherford House was saved from demolition in the late 1960s by the efforts of the University Womens' Club.
Since then the house has been restored with much of its' original grandeur intact.
It opened in 1976 as an Alberta heritage museum and has been operating successfully since then.
Rutherford House has become a cultural centre for Alberta with bus loads of school children conducted on guided tours.
The Arbour restaurant was opened in the mid 1980s and has proven a great success through the efforts of the Friends of Rutherford House.
Notably wedding receptions are held here on a regular basis, year round.
Today marks the 100th anniversary of Rutherford House, and I would like to thank everyone for their participation on behalf of the Rutherford family, of whom I am only a junior member.
The senior members of the family are Eric, Harwood and Helen McCuaig and Margaret Rutherford.
