Margaret Birkett Rutherford, 1926-2022, photograph - 1945 Queens University
Margaret Birkett Rutherford was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 6th, 1926. Margaret's parents were Cecil Rutherford and Helen Rutherford (nee Helen Martin). She attended school in Edmonton until grade 12, then went to Queens University.
After graduating from Queens she worked in Vancouver and met William Rufus Hayes, in the early 1950s. Margaret and William were married in Edmonton, at Rutherford House in 1952.

The couple lived in North Vancouver at 8086 Sunset Boulevard, in a house built by William Hayes. They had a son (William Cameron Hayes) in 1954, born in North Vancouver. Margaret's husband William was diagnosed with cancer in 1956, and passed away shortly after, in the North Vancouver General Hospital.
Margaret was assisted by her father and mother, in moving back to Edmonton in the late 1950s.

It is with great sadness, and heavy heart, that the Rutherford family announces the peaceful passing of Margaret Rutherford, at home, January 20th 2022.
Loving mother of William Cameron Rutherford, Margaret was a grand daughter of the first Premier of Alberta Alexander Cameron Rutherford. She was predeceased by her husband William Rufus Hayes, mother Hellen Rutherford and father Cecil Rutherford.
Margaret was a graduate of Queens University and an enthusiastic curler, often playing at the Royal Glenora Club, in Edmonton.
