RRX is conducting preliminary research into next generation oil sands policy.

In the context of future planetary scenarios one might, possibly optimistically, expect the gradual, well planned and orderly transition from petrochemical to other forms of energy.

Oil Sands

The apparently somewhat fortuitous situation of Alberta, Canada with respect to the extensive Athabasca region oil sands, implies long term reserves of a viable petrochemical supply, given favourable economic conditions for extraction.

Previous studies by RRX in the 1980s indicated proven reserve to production ratios in the order of several centuries, for the Athabasca oil sands.

Clearly if production rate is increased significantly the reserve to production ratios will decrease in direct proportion, implying somewhat less optimistic long term projections.
